Therapy for Teen Boys and Young Men

You’ve Already Tried Everything You Can Think Of

You gave him space.

Then you tightened the rules.

The phone came out of his room, the serious talk happened at the kitchen table, and somewhere in there, you found him another therapist.

Nothing produced the kind of lasting change you were hoping for.

Skip the Parenting Advice

You already know parenting a teenage boy is hard.

What you’re looking for is someone your son will actually talk to.

What Your Son Is Saying When He Says Nothing

None of it got past him.

Teen boys and young men catch far more than adults give them credit for, hypocrisy being the fastest of all.

What he doesn’t have is the sentence, “I feel caught between wanting your support and needing room to become my own person.”

So what comes out is “Leave me alone,” “You don’t get it,” and the CLASSIC, “I don’t know.”

This Next Part Is for Your Son

Maybe a parent or caregiver suggested this page, and now there’s pressure to try therapy. I get why that might be annoying.

Here’s what I won’t do: automatically side with your parents, talk to you like you’re eight, or turn every conversation into a lesson.

If something is genuinely unfair, we’ll call it unfair. If your reaction is making a hard situation worse, I’ll tell you that, too.

You don’t have to be excited about this. Willingness to have one real conversation is enough.

Where I Start With Your Son

Building a relationship with your son, ages 14-21, comes first, not treating him like a problem to solve. I want to understand what life looks like from his seat: what he’s angry about, what he’s worried about, what he wants more control over, and where he’s avoiding responsibility.

Our conversations are direct and practical. Most of it is him finding his own reasons to change, rather than me handing him mine.

We go after anxiety, decisions, boundaries, your trust in him, and an internal compass that doesn’t swing with every argument.

My conversations with your son are confidential unless I find he is considering harming himself or someone else. Then, I bring parent(s) in immediately. I can keep you informed in a general way of how our sessions are going.

Ask About School Without Preparing for a Fight

Imagine asking about his weekend and getting an answer.

Picture him disagreeing with you without disrespecting you.

Then, he makes a decision because it fits the person he wants to become, rather than because you told him to or because he wanted to prove you wrong.

It starts smaller than that. Fewer blowups. A little more honesty.

Your Son at 21

Over time, we can work toward more confidence, greater ownership of decisions, and less conflict at home.

There’s already enough chaos in the world.

That version comes from room, honesty, and people who treat him like the adult he’s becoming. He doesn’t need to become a different kid.

Loosen Your Grip on What You Can't Force

Online therapy in New Jersey and New York

A grip loosens when somebody who can see your hands says so plainly. That's most of what happens here.

You don't need to have it figured out before you start. The work asks two things: honesty in the room and follow-through outside it.

Email me at [email protected], and we'll set up a consultation. Bring the version of the problem you'd normally keep to yourself.
